2009 Seminar Position Descriptions
| Dance Coordinators | These A-Team members will purchase decorations in-line with the dance theme. You will assign other A-Team members to assist in the dance decoration. Additionally, you will determine prizes for best costumes. During the course of the dance, you and your committee will judge costumes and announce prizes before the dance ends. |
| HOBY Hugs |
This person(s)
will be responsible for purchasing the material to make HOBY Hugs. You will
be reimbursed for this cost. You will coordinate with other A-Team members
to produce the Hugs. Additionally, you will schedule A-Team members to sell
the Hugs during registration, meals and other appropriate times. This
coordinator will work with the PA East Treasurer to track revenue and
transfer the money.
|
| HOBY SpiritZone (The HOBY Store) |
The A-Teamers
here will be in charge of deciding what is to be sold at the HOBY Store (aka
the HOBY SpiritZone). Tasks before the seminar will include tracking the
inventory as it arrives. During the seminar, these individuals will choose
the misoc and format for the HOBY Fashion Show. You will include the entire
A-Team as models and announce and describe each item. Additionally, you
will work with the HOBY Treasurer to pass off cash and checks in a timely
fashion. Once the conference is complete, the surplus will need to be
packed and inventoried.
|
| Junior Facilitator |
You will be
assigned to a group and will assist the group facilitator in a variety of
tasks. While you are part of a group, keep in mind this idea: Keep the
spotlight on the Ambassadors and off of yourself. So help with your group’s
overall spirit and motivation. Make sure your quieter Ambassadors are
comfortable with the group, and before you have fun, make sure that your
Ambassadors are having fun first! Activities before the seminar include
contacting your group’s Ambassadors before the conference to answer any
questions. Activities AFTER the seminar include encouraging your group to
attend alumni activities.
|
| Lost & Found |
When we find
folders, backpacks, cell phones and anything else left unattended, these
items will come to you. Bring a box as we need to store this stuff. You
will work in conjunction with the MC and the rest of the A-Team to find time
to announce what has been found. When Ambassadors or HOBY staff claim these
materials, they will have to “earn it back.” You will determine what is the
appropriate activity. Let’s be more creative than “I’m A Little Tea Pot.”
|
| Newsletter | In the past, we have produced a 1 page (front and back) Daily Newsletter for the conference. This person will coordinate with ambassadors and HOBY staff for stories and pictures. You will lay the newsletter out and have it printed and distributed to the conference. A laptop and a knowledge of MS Publisher is most preferable. |
| Photography |
A-Team members
assigned to this task will take A LOT of pictures during as many activities
as possible at the seminar. Pictures will include yearbook photos,
Ambassador action pictures, pictures of EVERY speaker, pictures of every
speaker with an Ambassador. These members will need to have a digital
camera and bring their computer connection cords. An important idea to keep
in mind is that we aim to have at least one OUTSTANDING photo of every
Ambassador.
|
| Assistant to the MC/PMA |
PMA stands for Positive Mental Attitude. These A-Teamers will not be assigned to a group, but will be in charge of coordinating cheering. You will teach cheers, and you will work in conjunction with Justin and the MC to make sure that the Ambassadors and the rest of the staff are getting a healthy dose of PMA throughout the day! Coordinating cheers does not mean that you will “lead” cheers all the time. Work with other A-Teamers to spread that task around. Additionally, during the later parts of the conference, encourage Ambassadors to get on stage to lead cheers. Additionally, you will assist the MC with any tasks they need accomplished.
|
| Skit Writing |
Your extra project(s) here will be coordinating the various different skits the A-Team performs during the conference. Examples include: “The Voice of HOBY,” The HOBY Hug Skit, and the skit that the A-Team performs for the Talent Show. There may be instances where we’ll need to develop a skit right away, so be ready! The key for many of these skits are scripts and rehearsal. So you’ll need to be able to coordinate the A-Team and make sure they rehearse until we get it right.
|
| Slideshow | At the end of the conference, you all know there is a slideshow set to music which recaps the seminar for everyone. These A-Teamers will work in conjunction with the photographers to choose pictures and arrange them into a slideshow. A strong knowledge of computers, photo editing, filmmaking software is preferable. Also, it would be great if you had a laptop. |
| Talent Show Coordinator |
These individuals will collect the Talent Show Request forms. The majority of these forms will arrive before the seminar begins. So forms will also be collected during the seminar. It would be a good idea to start ordering the acts and group skits using the spreadsheet that will be provided. Be sure to arrange the acts in such a way that creates a good mix of types of acts. Additionally, you will coordinate the audio/visual needs of the performers. So if they are bringing CD’s, you will keep track of this stuff and know where and when to play it. Even with all that, you will have the opportunity to serve as MC for the talent show. Knowledge of MS Excel and a laptop is preferable.

Assistant (Alumni Advisor) |
This person
will assist the Alumni Advisor in various projects pertaining to the A-Team,
The Ice Cream Game, and all the other projects that fall under the A-Team.
During the hours before the seminar begins, you will assist in registering
arriving A-Team members, distribute t-shirts, and collect the required forms
from A-Teamers. You will also write, distribute, and collect an evaluation
survey from team members to improve the A-Team program. You will also help
Justin stay calm.
